A best friend should be kind, funny, forgiving, great at keeping secrets and sharing theirs. They wil accept your foibles and enjoy your successes as if they were their own. They wil be proud of you and tolerant, understanding and generous. In fact, they will be all the things that you are to them!

With a best friend you can laugh so much you think you might wet yourself, and that just makes you laugh even more. You can cry on their shoulder about a boy until their jacket needs the tumble-drier, and they won't complain-they'll understand, even if it's over their bother.

Best friends often make up secret languages together, better to keep the world out. They finish each other's sentences, wear the same clothes, share the same beliefs, fancy the same boys and giggle at the same jokes. They will share their highest hopes, even dreams, and their darkest fears and secrets.

For a lucky few, best friends last their whole lives. For others, a best friend sees them through times when their own families disappoint (they're not cool enough, funny enough, clever enough; they're just not enough!). Suddenly, a best friend is worth more than any amount of money.

When you stop seeing your best friend's point of view, or vice versa, you know things might be falling apart, but even if the friendship ends really badly, that can't take away all the really good things that a best friend once gave you when you needed it most.
